Drawing Plan for the New School

Cubmaster John Chase visited the school in 2005 and learned that the school had 42 students, 32 desks, and one teacher for first through fourth grade. The students were crowded into 340 square feet. The building was constructed of sticks and mud with a tin roof that had one translucent panel. The floor was dirt. There was one door and no windows. There was no electricity.

There were three blackboards, one dry-erase board, one latrine, one flagpole (with no flag), no play equipment, and one small food preparation area.

Since 2005 Pack 451 has raised enough money to build a new school. You can see pictures of the new school in the Photo Gallery for Cerro Grande School. The money was raised by yard sales, car washes, sale of aluminum cans, benefit concert, donations, etc.

Construction of the new school has been coordinated by the Rural Schools Partnership Program sponsored by Sister Communities of San Ramon, Nicaragua.

Now that the new school is built, Pack 451 will continue our partnership. We are at work raising money and finding ways to further our friendship with the students of Cerro Grande. For more information, contact Pack 451 Cubmaster John Chase.
